Replacement of high power spot lighting, energy intensive fluorescent tubes and bulbs with energy saving Zeta LED lighting
Bath university have committed to cutting energy costs and saving carbon by replacing their traditional energy intensive fluorescent lighting within the Student Union with Zeta LED energy saving technology.
The first reduction in energy and carbon was generated from a complete replacement of energy intensive 50W MR16 spot lights with the Zeta 3W MR16. A reduction in energy cost by over £23 per bulb annually creating yearly saving for the Student Union of more than £3600. Carbon emissions for this replacement alone have been reduced by over 22 tonnes of carbon annually.
Offering a substantially longer lifetime than the traditional fittings a maintenance and replacement savings value is predicted to be in excess of £12000 over the lifetime of the new products.
Zeta LED tube replacements have been developed so that the light offered is brighter and more natural than the yellow fluorescents that we are all used to. The main light source in the union is provided by 5ft tube which Zeta replaced reducing the power consumption from 55 watts to 22 watts. An energy saving of 60% and a total lifetime carbon saving of 16 tonnes contributes to the reduction targets.
Finally the use of 60 watts incandescent bulbs to illuminate an area of the Student Union used for pool and snooker, where directional light was necessary, has been refurbished and now the lighting source is a direct replacement Zeta LED 8w bulb that offers a cleaner more efficient light.
The Zeta LED lighitng installation has now been in place since July 2009 and the response from Bath has been extremely positive.
